Starters Repair

At Voltage Automotive we diagnose and fix issues with a vehicle's electrical starting system, which includes the starter motor, solenoid, and related wiring. Symptoms like a clicking sound, slow cranking, or a complete failure to start, even when the battery is charged, indicate a need for this service.

Diagnosis

Before any repairs begin, we will perform a thorough inspection to confirm the starter is the root cause of the problem. Initial checks: The battery and its cables are checked for corrosion or loose connections, as these can mimic starter problems. We perform a voltage drop tests to ensure adequate power is reaching the starter. System Check: The entire starting circuit, which includes the alternator, ignition switch, and fuses, is tested for proper function.

Repair or Replacement

Based on the diagnosis, the service may involve a repair or a complete replacement.

Repairing components: If the issue is minor, like a faulty solenoid, worn brushes, or damaged drive gear teeth, a technician may rebuild or repair the existing starter by replacing only the affected parts. Complete replacement: If the starter motor is severely damaged or at the end of its life, a full replacement is often more efficient and reliable. Technicians will install a new, remanufactured, or rebuilt starter. Vehicle-specific considerations: For some vehicles, the starter is easily accessible. For others, it may be located behind other components, which increases the labor time and cost.

Installation and Testing

After repairs or replacement, the technician completes the service with a final installation and test. Reconnect and secure: The new or repaired starter is bolted into place, and all electrical connections are securely fastened. Start-up test: The technician will start the engine to ensure the new or repaired component is working correctly and that the engine cranks smoothly.
