Check Engine Light Repair

We offer diagnostic and repair services to identify and fix the underlying issue that caused a vehicle's check engine light to turn on. Our service uses specialized computer tools to communicate with the vehicle's onboard diagnostic (OBD) system to retrieve trouble codes, which pinpoint the area of concern.  All performed by a master technician.

Diagnostic scan and Code Retrieval

  • Connecting the tool: A technician connects a handheld computer scanner to the vehicle's OBD-II port, usually located under the dashboard.

  • Retrieving trouble codes: The scanner pulls specific alphanumeric codes, such as P0300 for an engine misfire or P0141 for an oxygen sensor heater circuit fault. These codes provide a starting point for diagnosis.

Troubleshooting and Inspection
  • Interpreting the codes: The technician uses the trouble codes as a guide to focus their inspection. Since a single code can have multiple causes, the codes are not a definitive fix.

  • Performing detailed checks: Technicians perform visual inspections and further testing to confirm the exact problem. This may involve checking for loose electrical connections, faulty sensors, or vacuum leaks. Among other things.

Repair Execution
  • Addressing the root cause: Once the specific problem is identified, the technician performs the necessary repair or part replacement. This could be a minor fix or a more complex engine repair.

  • Common repairs: Examples of common repairs include tightening a loose gas cap, replacing a faulty oxygen sensor, swapping out a bad mass airflow (MAF) sensor, or addressing spark plug or catalytic converter issues.

Verification and Testing
  • Clearing the codes: After the repair is complete, the technician clears the stored trouble codes from the vehicle's computer.

  • Testing for confirmation: The vehicle is then road-tested to ensure the issue is fully resolved and that the check engine light does not reappear.

  • Setting readiness for the OBD2 system is a final step that can add confidence and knowledge that it is ready for an emissions test where required. Lastly piece of mind that your car is not polluting our air.
